Is turbo spin banned in the UK? RTS 14E, read

Yes. RTS 14E bars turbo, quick spin and slam stop on GB online slots, and since 2025 on all remote casino games. What is banned and what survives, read.

Yes. Turbo spin is banned on GB-licensed online slots, and has been since 31 October 2021. RTS 14E says a gambling system “must not permit a customer to reduce the time until the result is presented”, and the Gambling Commission’s guidance names turbo, quick spin and slam stop. Since 17 January 2025 the rule covers all remote casino games.

This is an evergreen rules question, so the specimen is the regulator’s own text, not a news peg. This desk read the live RTS 14 page, the Commission’s 2021 summary of responses on spin-stop features and its Summer 2023 Proposal 1 response on 8 October 2026.

Is turbo spin banned in the UK? What RTS 14E says

The RTS 14 page splits the family cleanly. 14D, the 2.5-second rule, applies to slots. 14E applies to casino. The requirement itself is one sentence about the time until the result is presented. The guidance does the naming: “Features such as turbo, quick spin and slam stop are not permitted”, and the list is “not intended to be an exhaustive list”. A studio cannot rename turbo and keep it.

A second clause closes another loophole. The rule applies “to all remote games, regardless of game cycle speed”, so a slot whose cycle already runs well past 2.5 seconds cannot offer turbo either.

The bonus-game row is the easiest one to miss. It comes from the current RTS text; this desk did not see it in the 2021 response, so the post claims nothing about when it was added.

What did the Commission’s consultation record?

The ban began as question 14 of the 2020 consultation. Per the summary of responses, 62% of respondents agreed, with “around three times as many” operators responding positively as negatively; members of the public had mixed views.

Some operators asked why the rule was needed alongside the 2.5-second minimum, and suggested the features be allowed if the spin speed was met. Several said slam stop let players skip repeated animations rather than offering an illusion of control. Several wanted free spins left alone. A couple argued turbo speeds the reels without shortening the game cycle. The Commission prohibited the features anyway.

The 2025 extension came from the Summer 2023 consultation. The Proposal 1 response, published 1 May 2024, added the crash-game guidance after operators asked whether such games were caught.

How does this sit beside the other speed rules?

14E is one of three brakes. RTS 8 removed autoplay, covered in our RTS 8 read. 14D sets the 2.5-second floor, and a studio that ran under it paid for it, as the Stakelogic case shows. Feature buys sit under a separate 2020 notice, read in our bonus-buy explainer.

FAQ

Is turbo spin banned in the UK?

Yes, on GB-licensed online games. RTS 14E says the system must not let a customer reduce the time until the result is presented, and the guidance names turbo, quick spin and slam stop as features that are not permitted. It has applied to slots since 31 October 2021 and to all remote casino games since 17 January 2025.

Can you skip animations on UK slots?

Partly. The Commission’s 2021 response says skipping animation after the result has been communicated is permissible. What cannot be skipped is the wait before the result, and on slots RTS 14D still holds the next game cycle until 2.5 seconds have passed since the last one started, so skipping a win celebration does not buy a faster spin.

Why do UK slots feel slower?

Because several brakes sit on top of each other. RTS 14D sets a 2.5-second minimum game cycle on slots, RTS 14E removes the controls that hurried the result, and RTS 8 removed autoplay, so every spin needs a fresh press. None of that changes the odds of a spin; it changes how many spins fit into a minute.

Why was autoplay banned for slots in the UK?

Autoplay went in the same 2021 game-design package as the turbo ban, under a separate rule, RTS 8. The Commission cited research naming autoplay as a potential contributor to gambling harm. Since 17 January 2025 auto-play cannot be offered on any online gaming product, and each game cycle must be committed to individually.

A slower spin is a design rule, not a verdict on any game, and it changes nothing about the maths underneath. This is a reading of the rulebook, not advice to play. 18+, UK stake limits apply to online slots, and if play stops feeling like a choice, talk to GambleAware.
